Mabel Anderson, age 92 of Riceville, passed away on Monday March 23, 2015 at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center, in Riceville, Iowa.
Mabel Marjorie Anderson was born Oct. 30, 1922 to Hans and Anna Christina (Smidt) Hansen in Maple Hill, Iowa. She attended school in Dolliver, Iowa, and graduated from there in 1940.
On May 4, 1940 Mabel was united in marriage to Gotchal ‘Pete’ Anderson in Spencer, Iowa. Five children were born to this union: Larry, Nancy, Darrel, Dennis, and Debra. Mabel moved from Dolliver, Iowa, with her husband in 1942 to the “little house on the quarter” as everyone called it. They later moved to the farm north of Riceville where she remained until Feb. 2011 when she moved to the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center.
Mabel was a housewife who worked alongside of her husband helping with chores and field work as well as raising her family. She always had time to babysit the grandkids and even a few of the great grandkids. Her family, farming, gardening and cooking were her greatest accomplishments.
She enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with Pete and several friends. They even managed to take most of the grandkids throughout the years. They spent many winters in Texas and she enjoyed crocheting and quilting in her retirement years. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in McIntire, Iowa, and an active member of the Ladies Aid.
Mabel leaves behind her sons Darrel (Sue) Anderson of Riceville and Dennis (Becky) Anderson of Lisbon, North Dakota and her daughters Nancy Lubbert of Riceville and Debra (Gregory) Roth of Mannington, West Virginia, 19 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pete, a son Larry and his wife Kay, a son-in-law Dean Lubbert, her brothers Einer, Harry, Walt and Axel (in infancy) and her sister Ella.
