Garmen Christian Olsen was born April 23, 1919 at rural St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa to Kristian Olausen Olsen and Clara Andersen, the fourth of their five children.

Garmen attended school at Carpenter, Iowa and graduated from the St. Ansgar High School in 1938. He was drafted into the Army in 1942 and served for 3 & 1/2 years on the Aleutian Islands.

Found in the 1920 - 1940 censuses at Newburg, Mitchell, Iowa:
1920: Christian Olsen 44, Clara Olsen 34, Gladys I Olsen 12, Glenn C Olsen 10, Garman C Olsen 8 months.

1925: Christ Olson 49, Clara Olson 41, Gladies Olson 16, Glen Olson 13, Garmond Olson 4, Gale Olson 3.

1930: Christ 54, Clara 45, Glenn 20, Garmen 10, Gail 8.

1940: Chris Olson 65, Clara Olson 55, Glenn C Olson 31, Garmon C Olson 20, Gail I Olson 19.

Garmen Olsen married Agnes Annette Austinson on February 22, 1941. The couple had 7 children, (4 still living in 2015).

Those deceased are:
Marty (b March 6, 1946, d March 7, 1946 both at Austin, Mower, Minnesota);
Monte Dale (twin to 2nd Marty) b September 27, 1951, d October 5, 1951) and
Merrit Chris (b August 2, 1956 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa, d July 2, 1963 Rochester, Olmsted, Minnesota).

After marriage, Garmen and Agnes lived on a farm across the road from his parents in Mitchell County, Iowa and then moved to a farm northeast of Lyle, Minnesota. Garmen helped his father, his brother, Glen, and brother-in-law, Elmer Ketelsen with farming; years later he farmed with his sons. He set up large chicken houses to raise chickens and had sheep for many years. Garmen enjoyed following his childrens' activities, bowling and socializing with his many friends.

Garmen C Olsen died September 10, 1978 at Rochester, Olmsted, Minnesota from complications of a massive stroke at the age of 59 years. His funeral was at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lyle, Mower, Minnesota at 1:30 p.m., conducted by Rev Gaylord Grant. Pall Bearers were: Duane Enerson, Loren Dennison, Kalijo Pihelgas, Melvin Rohne, Vernon and Bernard Nelson. The American Legion Post 105 gave military rites and burial was in the Six Mile Grove Cemetery.

There is a memorial for him at Find A Grave # 75318293.
