Clara Olivia Motland was born December 5, 1900, on a farm at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Peter Andreas Ingemundsen Motland and Martha Maakestad, the seventh of their nine children.

Clara was baptized at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa on January 6, 1901. Her baptismal sponsors were: Antonetta and Syver J Maakestad; Hanna Motland and Nicolai Pedersen. Clara was confirmed on June 6, 1915 at RCLC.

Found in the 1905 - 1925 censuses living at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:
1910: Peter Ingemundsen Andreas Motland 49, Martha Maakestad Motland 47, Sarah Motland 18, Ingolf Motland 16, Milton Motland 11, Clara Motland 9, Alida Nina Motland 4.

1915: Clara Motland age 14.

1920: Ingolf O Motland 26, Peter I Motland 59, Martha Motland 56, Kursti Maakestad 85, Milton E Motland 21, Clara O Motland 19, Rlida N Motland 13.

1925: Peter I Motland 64, Martha Motland 61, Ingolf O Motland 31, Adelia N Motland 48, Milton A Motland 26, Clara O Motland 24, Kriste Maakestad 90.

Found in the 1930 census at Rutland, Martin, Minnesota: Clara O Matland age 29.

Clara attended college at St Olaf in Minnesota.

She married the Reverand Milton Theodore Bratrud on August 20, 1931 at Rock Creek Lutheran, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. The couple had four children -- three girls and a boy.

Found in the 1940 census living at Sheyenne, Eddy, North Dakota: Milton Bratrud 34, Clara Bratrud 39, Grace Bratrud 7, Sylvia Bratrud 5, Lowel Bratrud 1.

Clara Bratrud died September 24, 1967 at Waterloo, Black Hawk, Iowa and was buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
