Funeral services were held on Monday, January 31, 1983 at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denver, Colorado, for Mercedes McCarthy Slater, who died on Wednesday, January 26,, 1983, at the Porter Hospital in Denver, following a short illness.
Interment was in the Fort Logan National Cemetery.
Mercedes was born the daughter of William and Mary McCarthy at New Haven, Mitchell County, Iowa, on October 3, 1917.
She attended a rural Mitchell County school and graduated from the Osage High School in the normal training program. She taught a number of years in the rural school system of Mitchell County. She took some advanced training at the University of Colorado in Boulder and made Denver her home since 1942.
Mercedes was united in marriage to Charles Slater in New Haven, on December 29, 1947. They owned and operated Slater's Fine Lettering in Denver, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, William and James.
Survivors include her husband Charles, and four sons, Gerald, Ronald, Dennis and John of Denver, Colorado; three brothers: Dan of Osage, Jim and Richard of New Haven; one sister, Catherine of Denver, Colorado; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
