Alverna Driscoll Marreel, age 88, of Osage, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Following services, cremation will take place with inurnment at Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.
Alverna was born July 14, 1926, at Meyer, Iowa, the daughter of William and Gertrude (Hackenmiller) Blake. Alverna attended Visitation School in Stacyville, graduating in 1943. She was employed at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for three years. On September 22, 1948, Alverna was married to Jerry Driscoll. To this union four children were born, Beth, Tom, Mark, and Cindy. After her children were in school, she was a cook at Osage Community Schools.
Alverna was widowed in 1972. She then worked as a nursing assistant at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital for 19 years. In 1991, Alverna was married to George Marreel. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Guild. Alverna loved playing cards, dancing, and caring for others. She was a wonderful mother and had a special relationship with each of her grandchildren.
Alverna is survived by her children, Sister Beth Driscoll P.B.V.M. of Dubuque, Tom (Loretta) Driscoll of Rogersville, Missouri, Mark Driscoll of Osage, and Cindy (Terry) McCarthy of Mason City; six grandchildren, Jenni McCarthy and husband Rob, Jill Ernst and husband Bruce, Kelly McCarthy, Ryan Driscoll, Jared Driscoll, and Stacy Petree and husband Travis; five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Dorothy Blake, Alex (Margaret) Blake, Rosemary (Bud) Schaefer, Adrian (Jean) Blake, Jean Quintero, Quentin (Elaine) Blake, Ted (Le Ann) Blake, Joan (Mike) Vitale, Bill (Betty) Blake; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by numerous friends, and special friend, Eileen Kleckner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Jerry Driscoll in 1972; her second husband, George Marreel in 2010; brothers and sisters, John Blake, Alma Wendelin, Marjorie Smith, and Ethel Bartholmey.
