JOHNSON (JOHANNESEN) MAAKESTAD, Peder
Peder (Johnson) Johannesen Maakestad was born August 9, 1852 at Mokestad, Ullensvang, Hordaland, Norway, to Johannes Moa Pedersen Maakestad and Gjoa Olsdatter Aaren. He was baptized at Ullensvang.
Peder left Ullensvang, Hordaland, Norway, on March 30, 1854 to emigrate to America. He was traveling with his parents, his sister and a group of his parent's friends and relatives. They settled at Lee, Illinois. One year later, they walked to Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa where his father bought land to farm.
Peder died before the 1856 census was taken at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. Believe he is buried somewhere in Mitchell County, Iowa, probably at Newburg Cemetery near St Ansgar, Iowa.
