Ingeborg "Belle" Severine Maakestad was born November 12, 1865, at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Ole Johnsen Maakestad and Kjersti Engebritsdatter Qvisle Nelson, the second of their seven children. Found with the first name of Ingeborg, Isabelle or Belle and surname when young was Johnson, later some family used Maakestad. Belle was baptized at Rock Creek Lutheran, Meroa, Iowa and confirmed at same on April 24, 1881. "Belle" attended the St Ansgar Seminary for schooling.
She married Harald Knudsen Klemesrud on May 25, 1890 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. From the Mitchell County Press News, 1890: Harold K. Klemesrud and Belle Maakestad were married - afterwards all went to the home of the bride's brother, S. J. Maakestad for dinner. After dinner, all guests were invited to Knute Klemesrud's barn where they all had a jolly time till dawn the next day.
The couple had 10 children: Omer Karl, Lillie Clarisse, Cora Odella, Herbert Irving, Olaf Kornelius, Clarence Godwin, Theodore Severin, Ruth Josephine, Lorin Harold and Eleanor Helene.
