Gertie Clarinda Maakestad was born November 23, 1891 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Syver Johan Maakestad and Antonette Docken, the second of their six children.

Gertie was baptized on January 1, 1892 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. Her baptismal sponsors were: Tosten Finsand, Gabriel Docken, Gunhild Docken and Olava Docken.

She was confirmed at RCLC on June 2, 1907.

1895: Gertie C Maakestad age 3.

1900: Syver J Maahestad 32, Antonete Maahestad 30, Oliver Maahestad 9, Gertie C Maahestad 8, Johan J Maahestad 5, Stella A Maahestad 4, Ingvald M Maahestad 1, Chrestafer Brenden 31, Aslak Arno 32.

1910: Syon J Maakestad 42, Antonetta Maakestad 40, Oliver Maakestad 19, Gertie C Maakestad 18, Theodus Maakestad 15, Myron Maakestad 11, Stella A Maakestad 7, Rady H Brenden 21.

1915: Gertie Maakestad age 23.

Gertie married Arthur Clarence Sponheim on April 4, 1917 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

The couple had four children:
Harold Eugene (b August 16, 1919, d January 1, 1985 Osage, Iowa);

Gertrude Annette (b December 14, 1922, d October 1963 Mason City, Iowa);

Dorothe Eleanor (b October 4, 1925, d May 30, 1926 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa) and

Ruth (still living in 2014).

1925: Arthur Sponheim 31, Gertie Sponheim 33, Horald Sponheim 5, Gertrude Sponheim 2, Lizzie Dynna 42, Morie Dynna 55, Lana Dynna 53,

1930: Arthur Sponhinn 36, Gertie Sponhinn 38, Harold Sponhinn 10, Gertrud Sponhinn 7, Ruth Sponhinn 5 mos,Christ Brenden 52.

1940: Arthure Sponheim 46, Gertie C Sponheim 48, Harold E Sponheim 20, Gertrude A Sponheim 17, Ruth E Sponheim 10.

Arthur and Gertie moved to Osage, Iowa after retiring from farming.

Gertie C Sponheim died May 10, 1991 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
