AnnaBelle McMaster, 91, of Riceville went to her eternal home Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Cedar Health in Charles City, Iowa.
AnnaBelle Ida Miller, first daughter of Leo and Lillie (Lundt) Miller, was born in Clay County, Iowa, March 3, 1923, weighing less than three pounds. When she was seven years old her family moved to Mitchell County, Iowa. She fondly recalled walking to country school on the railroad tracks. In 1940 she graduated from Little Cedar High School in Little Cedar, Iowa.
On July 1, 1941 she was married to James Robert McMaster in her parent’s home south of Grand Meadow, Minnesota. To this union three children were born: Janet Rae, Thomas James, and Charles Robert. They farmed two miles northeast of Riceville until they moved to town in 1976. James died November 4, 1993. AnnaBelle entered the Riceville Family Care Center in May, 2007.
AnnaBelle was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and was secretary of the church Evening Circle for several years. Her sweet soprano voice was enjoyed by all, especially the grandchildren when they received their very early morning “Happy Birthday” song on the telephone.
She worked many years as a waitress at the Riceville Sale Barn and Pettitt’s Café. After retirement she loved walking to the school to watch the games and concerts. On her daily walks, she would get “bend-over” exercise by picking up litter. She was honored by the Riceville Head Start program for keeping their city park playground free of sharp objects. She was known for her compassionate correspondence and was a faithful care-giver for two terminally ill friends.
AnnaBelle is survived by her children Janet (Gene) Grimm and Tom (Judy) Mc Master of Riceville; and Charlie McMaster (Melissa Rosendahl) of Decorah, Iowa; a sister Roberta Turner of Grand Meadow, Minnesota; five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband James.
