Lars Hansen Knudsen was born October 1, 1848 at Bildeneiet in Tingelstad, Hadeland, Norway to Hans Knudsen and Aase Larsdatter, the second of their six children. Lars left Norway with his parents and older sister in June 1850 to emigrate to America. They were on a ship for about two weeks, landing at New York City. They then traveled to Milwaukee, that trip taking about four weeks.
The family first lived at Muskego, Wisconsin about a year and then moved to Rock Prairie, Rock Wisconsin where they lived three years. In 1854, the family moved west with the Rev Claus Clausen party to St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa.
Found in the 1856 census living on a farm near St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa: Hans Knudson 36, O. Knudson 37, A. Knudson 14, L. Knudson 12, H. Knudson 10.
Lars H. Knudsen died December 31, 1856 at Newburg, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Blakestad (Old Mill Road) Cemetery, Newburg, Mitchell, Iowa.
