Edna Veronica “Vicky” (DeSloover) Clappier April 7, 1928 – December 1, 2000

The memorial Mass for Veronica "Vicky" Clappier will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Msgr. Gerald A Mahon officiating.

Her body was donated to the Mayo Anatomy Program, and will be buried at Calvary Cemetary in Rochester at a later date. A visitation time will be held at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Clappier died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at her home in Rochester.

Edna Veronica was born on a farm in Mitchell County, Iowa, on April 7, 1928, to Ernest and Lily DeSloover. She attended a rural grade school and Riceville High School, graduating in 1946. After attending Iowa State University at Ames for one year, she enrolled in the three-year RN program in Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester. She graduated in 1950.

On April 11, 1953, she married David Clappier at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Rochester.

She held various positions at Saint Marys Hospital, including staff nursing, night supervisor, nursing manager, and private duty nursing over a period of 38 years. Mrs. Clappier volunteered with the Saint Marys Auxiliary, Community Clothesline, Mayo Friendship Club, and St. John the Evangelist Church. Vicky enjoyed gardening, and loved to share her harvest with friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant brothers, her husband David, and sons, Jon and Craig. Survivors include a daughter Renee, and grandchildren Josh (Sarah) Clappier, Jessica (Shane) Miller, and Sarah Clappier, all of Rochester. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren and two sisters, Virginia Farus of DeWitt, Iowa, and Vivian Nicholl of Georgetown, Texas. She is also survived by her special friend, Conrad Ricter.

Memorials are suggested to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church or the Mayo Poverello Fund.
