RICEVILLE, IOWA - Richard Lee Nath, 78, of Riceville, died at his residence on April 15.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Riceville, at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Byron Northwick officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville, with military honors preformed by the American Legion Roy Gue Post 244.

Friends may call on Sunday, April 20, at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville during the hours of 4-8 p.m. and one hour before services at the church.

Obituary--

Richard was born on August 25, 1935 in Cresco, Iowa to Walter and Kathryn (Kempf) Nath. In 1940 the family moved to the Kempf family farm. He attended local schools and graduated from Riceville High School in 1953. After graduation Dick enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in an Engineering Battalion helping rebuild South Korea after the armistice ending the Korean Conflict.

On September 29, 1955, he was united in marriage to Ardyth Jean Gray at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riceville. Dick and Ardyth farmed the family farm and he was active serving on the Riceville School Board, FHA Board, Farm Service Board, Farm Bureau Board, the Creamery CO-OP Board, National Milk Producers Board, Gideons and was an active member of the American Legion. Dick was also very active in his church, St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He also made several trips to Ukraine after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. He went there to help their famers learn modern farming practices.

Along with being a farmer Dick was a builder at heart. He built or rebuilt a lot of his farm machinery. Dick also built four homes beginning with his first on the family farm in Riceville which he designed and built at the age of 28, doing all the work himself with the help of his wife Ardyth. He was involved in a lot of other building projects including houses and condos in Colorado and a church in Brazil. Dick also had a passion for running heavy equipment which he learned in the Army.

Survivors include his wife Marita; three sons: Doug and his wife Trudy of Riceville, Dana and Christopher both of Riceville; a daughter Debora and her husband Al Saliman of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; five grandchildren: Eric Nath, Jill Wagner (Kyle), Patrick Nath, Ben Wright and Laura Wright and a great granddaughter Aspyn Wagner. Also surviving is a brother David and his wife Lynda of Arroyo Grande, California.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Ardyth in 2000, and a brother Ray in 1955.

Visitation:
4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville.

Service:
on Monday, April 21, 2014 At St. Peter Lutheran Church in Riceville.

Cemetery:
at Riverside Cemetery, Riceville.
