MISHAP FATAL TO ALVER DAHLEN
Funeral rites were held Monday afternoon for an elderly Osage nurseryman, Alver Dahlen, 84, who died on March 12, as the result of a fall from the roof of his home. Mr. Dahlen's body was found the following day by a mail carrier.
Rev. J. Cahill was in charge of the services at the United Church of Christ. Arrangements were by C. R. Champion and Sons, and burial was in the Osage cemetery.
Alver Tobias Dahlen was born on December 21, 1896, in Forest City, Iowa, the son of Tollef and Matilda Gilbrandson Dahlen. He came to Osage as a young man.
Mae Alice Sonberg and Alver Dahlen were married in 1923. They established their home on a farm near here and moved to Osage in 1929. Mrs. Dahlen died in 1945. In 1950 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Lillian Lonergan.
Mr. Dahlen, upon moving to Osage, was employed by Andrew Winther, who operated the Winther Nursery. Mr. Dahlen bought the business in 1947, following the death of the nursery owner, and has operated it continuously since.
Preceding him in death were his two wives and his parents.
Surviving are one son, Melvin of Las Vegas; one daughter, Donna Norling of Bloomington, Minnesota, five grandchildren; six stepchidlren and their families; one brother, Theodore Gilman Dahlen of Sun City, Florida; and two sisters, Myrtle Nielsen of Milwaukee and Alma Engle of Upland, California.
