RITES HELD FOR CARRIE VANCE
Funeral rites were held Monday morning at the Champion Funeral Home for an Osage woman, Mrs. Carrie Vance, 84, who died at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital on March 13, 1981, following an illness of several months.
Rev. J. Cahill, pastor of the United Church of Christ, was in charge of the rites and burial was in the Osage Cemetery.
Carrie Marie Gravenor was born at McIntire, Iowa, on January 23, 1897, the daughter of Will and Eunice Brown Gravenor. In her youth she lived in Albany and Janesville, Wisconsin, and attended business school in the latter place.
John Vance and Carrie Gravenor were married on February 2, 1921, in Rockford, Illinois. They made their home in Osage for many years, but spent eight years in Mason City, six in California, and then returned to Osage in 1973. During the past year she and her husband resided at the White House of Osage.
Mrs. Vance was a member of the United Church of Christ, and in past years had been affiliated with the American Legion Auxiliary and Bethany Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Her husband John died on September 18, 1980. Others preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters and five brothers.
Surviving are one son, William A. of Des Moines; one daughter, JoAnn, Mrs. Mike McGhan of Osage; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Gravenor of Phoenix, Arizona; nieces and nephews.
