Jim Farus, 25, Dies in Plane Crash Tuesday
Jim Farus, 25 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Farus of Dewitt, Iowa, and former Riceville residents, and the grandson of Mr. Oliver Farus of Riceville, was killed in a plane crash Tuesday, March 15, near San Antonia, Texas. Mr. Farus was a member of the U. S. Air Force.
Details of the accident were not known Wednesday morning by Mr. Farus.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 21 at St. Joseph's Church in DeWitt, Iowa for 1st Lt. James E. Farus, 25.
Lt. Farus was killed, as was Major Gary E. Woods, when their T-28 aircraft crashed during a routine training mission near Gonzales, Texas. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Assigned to the 275th Aero Medical Airlift Wing, Scott AFB, Illinois, Lt. Farus was on temporary duty assignment to Randolph AFB, Texas, where he was a student in the Instrument Pilot Instructor School.
Lt. Farus was born in Riceville and was a graduate of the DeWitt Central High School and the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. A qualified pilot, Farus graduated from pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi in 1975.
He is survived by his wife, Yevonne; his parents, Gene and Virginia Farus; a sister, Sue, and a brother, David, all of DeWitt, plus a grandfather, Oliver Farus of Riceville.
His brother, David, sang the Lords Prayer at the funeral services.
There were approximately 100 air force personnel at the services, and the Air Force had planned to fly a squadron of T-38's over the cemetery during the committal, but had to be canceled due to a snow storm.
