Harriet “Hattie” (Preston) Treat
May 18, 1853 – September 24, 1884
MRS. EUGENE TREAT
Mrs. Eugene Treat, of Ferguson Street, South side, died yesterday morning at ten o’clock after a long and painful illness from cancer of the breast.
For the past six months she has been a terrible sufferer, and the best medical skill of this city has been employed to attend her, and about six weeks ago a council of four physicians was called in and an operation performed, when they removed three cancers or tumors.
For a time she seemed to improve, but was taken sores and gradually grew worse until death came to her relief.
About three weeks ago she lost an infant baby, which seemed to worry her very much in her weak condition, and then to know that very soon she would follow it and leave behind her five small motherless children must have been a terrible thing for the poor woman to realize just in the prime of life, scarcely thirty-one years ago.
The husband feels the loss of his dear companion terribly, bt he has the satisfaction of knowing he had done all he possibly could for her in the long weary weeks and months of pain and suffering.
The funeral took place this afternoon at two o’clock from the residence.
