Funeral services for an Osage man, Wilder I. Lovejoy, 79, were held Thursday at the Champion Funeral Home here. Mr. Lovejoy died at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital on February 24, 1981. Rev. G. Hope, pastor of the Baptist Church, was in charge of the rites, and burial was in the Liberty Cemetery near Little Cedar. Military rites were conducted at the graveside by the Memorial Squad of American Legion Post 278.
Wilder Ira Lovejoy was born in Osage, Iowa, on March 31, 1901, the son of Henry and Sarah Stire Lovejoy. He grew to adulthood in Mitchell County, attending school in Mitchell. During World War II he served with the US Army.
Fama McFarland and Wilder Lovejoy were married March 31, 1931. They have lived in the Osage area continuously. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the American Legion, and was a retired welder for a Mason city firm.
Surviving are his wife Fama; one son, Robert of Osage; two daughters, Mrs. Norma Bly of Nora Springs and Mrs. John Lane (Judi) of Charles City; one sister, Mrs. Laura McVicker of Escater, Oregon; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers.
