RITES HELD FOR
MARY HANSEN, 101Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for a St. Ansgar woman, Mrs. J.P. Hansen, 101, who died at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center on January 21, 1981. Rev. G. Grant, pastor of the Community Church in Otranto, was in charge of the rites at the Schroeder Funeral Home, and burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.
Hanna Marie (Mary) Nelson was born on December 6, 1879, in St. Ansgar Township, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Quitzau Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, by Rev. Johann Olson. She attended the Spring Valley rural school and the St. Ansgar Seminary.
J.P. Hansen and Mary Nelson were united in marriage July 6, 1903, at First Lutheran Church. They established their home in the Otranto area and she remained there until becoming a resident of the Good Samaritan center.
Surviving are one daughter, Leona of St. Ansgar; one sister, Mrs. Lena Tyrrell of Osage; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Doris Hansen of Stacyville; one grandson, Jeffrey Hansen of Otranto; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, J.P. (Pete) Hansen; one daughter, Helen; one son, Christian; one sister, Laura Libersky; and three brothers.
