Funeral rites for a longtime Riceville resident, Mrs. Clara Hegstad, 94, who died January 9, 1981, at the Community Rest Home there, were held January 13, at the Lindstrom Funeral Home. The Rev. L. Carlson was in charge of the services and burial was in the Riverside cemetery.
Clara Peterson was born on November 24, 1886, in North Dakota, the daughter of Edward and Louise Peterson. She was united in marriage to the Rev. Paul Hegstad on August 27, 1910, in Great Falls, Montana. They resided in North Dakota, Minnesota and points in Iowa before coming to Riceville 30 years ago, when her husband retired from the ministry.
He preceded her in death on January 30, 1973. Others dying before her were her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are one son, Palmer Hegstad of Austin, two daughters, Mrs. Richard Macy (Ruth) of Muncie, Indiana, Mrs. Lydia Noble of Baltimore, Maryland; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
