Rhoda J. [maiden surname unknown to me] was born abt 1849 in Vermont. [As shown in the census data to follow, her birth year given varied between censuses.]
She married Edward Torney 1870 in Canada, they moved to Dixie, Rock, Mitchell, Iowa the same year to begin farming. (Edward Torney was born May 1837 in Canada to Richard Torney (1789-1871) and Jane McIlroy (1805-1887).
The couple had two children:
Hattie M. (born October 1873 Rock township, Mitchell, Iowa, d July 21 1947 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa) and
Henry Earl Torney (b May 1, 1877 Rock township, Mitchell, Iowa, d July 15, 1942 Mason City, Cerro Gordo, Iowa).
Found Rhoda in the 1870 - 1910 censuses living on a farm at Rock township, Mitchell County, Iowa:
1870: Edward Torney 31, Rhoda Torney 21, Thomas Torney 47.
1880: Edward Torney 38, Rhoda Torney 29, (birth year 1850), Hattie Torney 6, Henry Torney 3.
1885: Edward Torney age 46; Roda J age 32; Hattie M age 11; Henry B age 7.
1895 (birth year 1853): Roda Torney age 42.
1900(born April 1858): Edward Torney 61, Rod J Torney 42, Henry Torney 23.
1910 (born 1850): Edward Torney 67, Rody J Torney 60, Henry E Torney 31.
Rhoda J Torney died June 8, 1913 at Mitchell Co, Iowa and was buried at the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
