OBITUARY.

Mr. Robert Foster, who died at his late residence in Mitchell county, Iowa, near Riceville, was born in Mill Creek, Erie county, Pennsylvania, March 28, 1809. At the age of 22, he lost his left arm by the accidental discharge of his gun at a general training, of a regiment to which he belonged.

The 26th of April 1838, he was married with Elizabeth Warren, He was constable and deputy sheriff a number of years, coming West in 1853; remaining in Indiana two years, taking up his abode early in 1855, settling near where Riceville now is. He battled successfully with the hardships of frontier life, and with the help and encouragement of his estimable wife, made a comfortable home, supporting a large family of children.

He was a kind and generous neighbor, a peaceful citizen, loyal and true. While he did not belong to any church, he left evidence that he believed in Christianity.

Up to about the first of January, Mr. Foster enjoyed good health; since then he had two paralytic shocks, the last about 17th inst. Calmly, peacefully, silent and alone he passed to the silent shore. The family has the sympathy of the entire community in its great affliction.

Befitting memorial services were held in the Riceville M.E. Church Sunday morning, July 20th, in memory of the late Mr. Robert Foster, and Cora, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fellows, of Mitchell county, Iowa.

The decease of the former occurred on the 23rd of March, and the latter on the 15th of April, proper obsequies upon the days of interment being deferred in consequence of sickness in the families of the bereft.

The memorial occasion was beautiful and profitable, as all minds present were thoughtfully subdued to calm and sober reflection. Flowers tastefully adorned the pulpit, and a large audience was present upon the occasion, while the pastor endeavored to point hearts to "Him, who is the resurrection and the life."

--
Note: Mr. Foster is buried in the Riverside cemetery, Jenkins twp.; Cora is more than likely also buried there.
