Funeral services were held Wednesday morning for an Osage woman, Mrs. Fred Smart, 87, who died Monday at Faith Home here. Mrs. Smart had been ill for three years.
Rev. D. Raftis, pastor, was in charge of the funeral mass at Sacred Heart Catholic church and arrangements were by C. R. Champion and Sons. Burial was at St. Peter's cemetery, New Haven, Iowa.
Mamie Gilles was born on November 24, 1884, in New Haven, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Jax Gilles. She received her education at St. Mary's Academy in New Haven.
Fred Smart and Mamie Gilles were married November 2, 1917, and they lived in Oshkosh, Racine and Kenosha, Wisconsin, before retiring to Osage 14 years ago.
Surviving are her husband, Fred, of Osage; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Leo Gilles of Charles City; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Spurbeck of Minneapolis and Mrs. Flora Finnigan of Long Beach, California.
Preceding her in death were two sons, her parents, and six brothers and sisters.
