Mr. Kirchgatter was united in marriage on March 12, 1892, to Miss Theresa Gadicka. They settled on a farm two miles south of Carpenter where they resided for thirty-seven years. To this union four daughters were born; Mrs. Ella Rosenberg of St. Ansgar; Mrs. Rosie Borchardt of Carpenter, Mrs. Theresa Kroneman of Mitchell, and Mrs. Dorothy Greiner of Grafton. About ten years ago they moved to Grafton.

He has been ailing for a number of years and about a year ago he was taken to Rochester for medical aid. On February 19, he suffered a light stroke from which he recovered. But on Tuesday, March 7, 1939, he passed away from the effect of an internal hemorrhage. He was a loving father and kind-hearted husband and leaves to mourn a wife, four daughters and fifteen grandchildren. Four sisters also survive, Mrs. Martha Maher and Mrs. Minnie Grapp of St. Paul, Mrs. Emma Diederich of Toeterville and Mrs. Ida Kirchgatter of Nora Springs. Three brothers surviving are Albert, Adolph and Richard, all of St. Ansgar.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Lutheran church. Rev. Lechner officiated. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery.
