James Starr

December 11, 1839 – March 12, 1890

James Starr, first child of Jesse and Lucinda (Groat) Starr, was born at Whitby, Canada on December 11, 1839. He was a boy of good habits, quick to learn and active in all sports. He moved to Dane County, Wisconsin in 1852 and worked on the farm there until the fall of 1861 when he went to Jones County, Iowa and opened up a farm of his own.

He was married to Mary Ann Bossingham in 1863. He continued to farm at Prairie Hill until 1882 when he moved to Fayette, Iowa where he resided until he sold out and moved to Osage, Iowa. He died there March 12, 1890.

He had four children; William, Herman, Luella, and Roscoe. William and Herman lived at Osage, proprietors of the candy and notions store.
