Henry Gulbrandsen Horgen was born July 13, 1881 near Clermont, Fayette, Iowa to Gulbrand Halvorsen Horgen & Ingeborg Petersdatter, the first of their ten children. He moved with his parents to Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa in 1886.
Found in the 1895 - 1905 censuses living at Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa:
1900: Gilbert Horgan 41, Isabel Horgan 40, Henry Horgan 18, Melvin Horgan 13, Edwin Horgan 10, Cora Horgan 7, Ingvall Horgan 4, Gilmer Horgan 2, Ottelei Horgan 1.
Henry married Bertha Marie Helling on March 26, 1906 at the Osage Lutheran Parsonage at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa. The couple had 4 children.
Found in the 1910, 1915 censuses at Jenkins, Mitchell, Iowa:
1910: Henry L Horgen 28, Bertha M Horgen 23, Gladys H Horgen 3, Ludwick Anderson 23.
1915: Living at McIntire, Iowa. Harry G Horgen age 34.
Found in the 1920, 1925 censuses at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa, renting house:
1920: Henry Hargan 38, Bertha Hargan 33, Gladys Hargan 12, Melbourne Hargan 9, Irene Hargan 6, Bernard Hargan 10 mos.
1925: Henry Hergen age 44. (says his mother is Belle Paulson)
Found in the 1930 census at Dayton, Chickasaw, Iowa: H G Horgen 48, Bertha M Horgen 44, Gladys H Horgen 23, Melbourne Ivan Horgen 19, Irene E Horgen 17, Bernard H Horgen 11.
News article from: Waterloo Daily Courier March 26, 1951: "Mr. and Mrs. Henry Horgen celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary Monday" :
A belated anniversary dinner is to be later when road conditions permit their family to be home.
Bertha Marie Helling, LuVern, Minn., became the bride of Henry Horgen at Osage Lutheran church parsonage, March 26, 1906.
The couple lived first at Floyd, where Horgen managed the Floyd hotel and the livery barn. They then lived at Orchard, where he was employed in the Orchard elevator and then farmed for some time in Mitchell, Floyd and Chickasaw counties, acting as salesman for part of that period.
They came to Osage in 1940 where they have since lived. They have four children, Gladys, Ft. Dodge; Melbourn, Las Vegas, Nev.; Mrs. Robert (Irene) Lewis, Cardndale, Ill,, and Bernard, New Hampton. There are four grandchildren.
Henry Horgen died April 27, 1972 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
