Duane Roger Lockie, 87, of Riceville passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family after a brief struggle with leukemia. His love for his Lord and Savior guided him through the struggle.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday Oct. 4 at the Riceville United Methodist Church with Pastor Joyce Proctor officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Riceville. Friends may call on Thursday, Oct. 3 from 5-8 p.m. at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville and one hour before services at the church.

Death: September 29, 2013Duane Roger Lockie, 87, of Riceville passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family after a brief struggle with leukemia. His love for his Lord and Savior guided him through the struggle.
Duane was born on September 29, 1926, at home near Riceville to Bernice (Foster) and Reed S. Lockie, Sr. He was educated in the Riceville school system, was the charter president of the Riceville FFA chapter in 1943, and graduated from Riceville High School in 1944. He was drafted into the Army for one year in 1945. He took his basic training in Arkansas and served in the Army Security Agency in Virginia. He enjoyed farming and working with livestock his entire life in the Riceville area. He had a special fondness for horses.
On June 6, 1948, he was married to Ruth Grace at the McIntire Methodist Church. To this union were born four children, Karla (Phil) Jensson of Riceville, Kevin (Tove) Lockie of Riceville, Korwin (Marilyn) Lockie of Woodbury, Minnesota, and Kerri (Dave) Swancutt of Riceville.
Duane served as leader for Jenkins Hot Shots 4-H Club, Jenkins Township Trustee, and for many years on the LeRoy Co-op Creamery Board. He was active in the community serving on the Riceville Community School Board for six years, three as president, and 26 years on the Riceville Cemetery Board. He also was an active member of the Riceville United Methodist Church holding many church offices. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge.
His love for family was foremost to him and he followed as many activities as he could involving his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved to dance, play cards, and had a great sense of humor. He was a kind, gentle, and patient man who was a great inspiration and role model for his family.
Surviving besides his children are the following grandchildren and great grandchildren: Karla’s family: Joy (Rudy) Evertsen and Michel and Annika of Leon, Iowa, and John (Bryn) Jensson and Brandt of West Des Moines, Iowa; Kevin’s family: Pastor Chris (Corinne) Lockie and Levi, Anna, and Katherine of Davenport, Iowa, Kyle (Sara) Lockie and James and Grace of Ankeny, Iowa, and Mariah (Nathan) Abel of St. Louis, Missouri; Korwin’s family: Jennifer (Chad) Buran and Charles and Lillian of St. Paul, Minnesota, Alicia (Mike) Murzyn of West Lakeland, Minnesota, and Brianna Lockie of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Kerri’s family: Abby and Benjamin Swancutt of Riceville. Survivors also include a brother-in-law Harley (Phyllis) Grace; sister-in-laws Virginia Grace and Jene Lockie, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brother Reed, Jr., a brother-in-law, Earl Grace, and a great grandson, Jonathan Lockie.
Visitation:
5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville, and at the church for one hour prior to services.Service:
