Darald Dean Elliott was born on July 30, 1934, the only child of Edwin and Bertha Elliott. He died peacefully of MSA in his home at 3861 Primrose Ave, Osage, on September 24, 2013.

Darald graduated from Boone High School in 1952 and immediately began his lifelong career in retail sales, first as a stock boy in the National Tea food store in Boone, and then as manager and/or owner of several retail stores. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard for a number of years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Osage.

He met and married Jane Jennison in 1955 and thereafter fathered four children: Sarah Elliott of Osage, Brian Elliott of Snohomish, Wa., Mary (Elliott) Gasteiger of Murrieta, Calif., and Mark Elliott of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, his beloved children and grandchildren: Rachel (Jensen) Vincent and Caleb Gasteiger; Zachary, Hannah, and Isaiah Elliott; Sophia and Miriam Salamah; Grace Elliott; sons- and daughters-in-law, and numerous relatives and friends.

He loved managing and/or owning retail stores; slow dancing with his wife; sitting in, “dirty old airports,” and watching the people go by; traveling with all expenses paid; swinging on the porch, and playing “500” with good friends; watching his kids and grandkids come and grow and go; and listening to the sound of the cash register ringing, and to country music. He will be sorely missed and joyously remembered.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Riceville Community School in Darald’s name.
