Niels Aadsen (Oddsen) Himle Nelson was born October 16, 1841 at Vossevangen, Hordaland, Norway, to Aad (Odd) Nielsen Himle and Brithe Johannesdatter.

He emigrated to America in the summer of 1852 with parents and siblings. Family found in the Norwegian Digital Archives on-line for Voss, Hordaland, Norway 1845-1855: page 98, entries # 16-21: Odd Nielsen Himle age 47; wife Brithe Johannesdatter age 48; Children: Britha age 20; Randvei age 16; Niels age 11; Inger age 5. Leaving Voss, Hordaland Norway on May 11, 1852.
Next found on a passenger list from Norway to U.S.: Port of Departure: Bergen, Norway. Arrival Date: 16 Jul 1852; Port of Arrival: New York, New York, U.S. on Ship "Bjorgiven". Traveled on to Wisconsin.

Ole, born 1805, age 47; Brite born 1804, age 48; Brite born 1833, age 19; Maria age 17, born 1835; Inger age 5, born 1847; Niels age 10, born 1842.

Family found in the 1860 census living at Leeds, Columbia, Wisconsin: Odd Nelson 54, Betsey Nelson 55, Maria Nelson 24, Nels Nelson 19, Inger Nelson 13.

Niels married Inga Ivarsdatter Syse (Olsen) November 1863 at Spring Prairie, Walworth, Wisconsin; moved to Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa.

The couple had nine children:

Iver Johannes (b March 13, 1866 Spring Prairie, Columbia, Wisconsin, d May 23, 1938 Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa);

Emma Josephine (b February 12, 1871 Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa, d October 28, 1930 rural Floyd, Iowa);
Albert Oscar (b December 2, 1873 Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa, d October 28, 1839 rural Floyd, Iowa);
Emelia Nicolene (b June 24, 1875 Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa, d April 4, 1947 Mitchell, Iowa);
Johannes Levinus (b December 21, 1877 Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa, d November 5, 1880 Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa);
Oscar Bertinius (b June 12, 1880 Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa, d October 7, 1964 Floyd, Iowa) and
Bertina Jennie (b February 20,, 1883 Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa, d February 4, 1970 Osage, Iowa).

Family found in the 1873 Rock Creek Lutheran Church (at Meroa, Iowa) membership list: Niels O. Nielsen Himle, age 31; Wife: Inga, age 31; Children: Brita Oline, age 8; Iver Johana, age 7; Catherina Marie, age 4; and Emma Josephine, age 2. Niels was a farmer.

Found in the 1870 - 1900 censuses living at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa:
1870: Weles O Nelson 28, $12,000 value of real estate; $880 personal value; Erya Nelson 28, Betsey A Nelson 5, Edward J Nelson 4, Mary K Nelson 1, Edward Nelson 23 (farmer, born in Norway).

1880: Nels O. Nelson 38, Enga Nelson 38, Iver Nelson 14, Kate Nelson 11, Emma Nelson 9, Albert Nelson 6, Emelia Nelson 4, John Nelson 2, Ella Johnson 15, Cathn. Knudeson 25.

1885: Nels O Nelson 43, Enga Nelson 43, Iver Nelson 18, Catharine Nelson 16, Emma Nelson 14, Albert Nelson 11, Amelia Nelson 9, Oscar Nelson 4, Bertina Nelson 2, Betsey Nelson 83

1900: Nels O Nelson 58, Enga Nelson 38, Emma J Nelson 30, Oscar B Nelson 19, Bertina N Nelson 17. Says the couple had 9 children, 7 living.

Found in the 1910 census at Osage, Mitchell County, Iowa: Nels Om Himle Nelson 68, Inga Ivarsdatter Syse 68.

Died March 9, 1911 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa. Buried at Rock Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
