MRS. ARTHUR RICE
OLD RESIDENT
DIES HERE FRIDAY

Mrs. Arthur Rice passed away at her home on south Fifth street last Friday morning after a critical illness of a few weeks. She had been in failing health, due to her advanced age, for a long time.

Frances Augusta Smith, daughter of Thomas and Anna Smith, was born in Dane county, Wisconsin, on February 7, 1865, and passed away on Friday January 29, 1943, at the age of 77.

She lived for a short time at Lake City, Minnesota and then came to Mitchell county with her parents, and spent the remaining years of her life here.

She was married to Arthur Rice in 1889 [January, February, May, or July 5, 1889]. Four children were born to this union -- [missing] Ora, Chester and Smith. [missing] and Ora preceded her in death.

Surviving are the sons, Chester and Smith, and four grandchildren -- Dean and Marilyn Rice, Dorothy Hayenga-Val Vliet... Mrs. Agnes Gifford, ... brother, William Smith. ... Val Vliet was reared by her grandmother, after her own mother, Ora Hayenga, died.

Funeral services were held on Monday at the Champion Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. John ___ern, of the Baptist Church. Burial was in the Osage cemetery.
