Martin V. Norton was born at Portage, Wisconsin, on July 25, 1869, the youngest son of Thomas and Catherine Egan Norton. In 1873 the family migrated to Mitchell county, Iowa, settling on a farm in Douglas township. He grew to manhood here, but in 1897 he moved to Canby, Minnesota.

At Canby he was married to Mary Hernan and to this union two sons and two daughters were born. The family lived in Minnesota and South Dakota for a number of years.

For the past twenty years his home has been at Long Beach, and Artesia, California, where he passed away on Christmas Eve. The funeral was held from St. Mathew's Church, December 28, 1942.

He is survived by his widow, and his children: Raymond and Mrs. Kathryn Lenz of Conde, South Dakota; Lawrence and Mrs. Margaret Grater of Long Beach, Calif.; also six grandchildren. Two brothers also survive: Thomas of St. Paul Park, Minnesota, and Francis of Morris, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.
