Russell James Jahnel

MT. VERNON, MISSOURI - Russell Jahnel, 62, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 8:55 a.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2013, at his home, after bravely battling with his second bout of leukemia. Russell was born March 15, 1951, in Riceville, the son of Robert and Ruth (Johanns) Jahnel.

Russell was a 1970 graduate of Osage Community High School in Osage. He was the assistant manager of Jahnel’s Package Store for 41 years, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Susanne Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon. He loved fishing, playing dominoes and visiting with people.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his mother, Ruth Jahnel of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Cindy Lacy, of Mt. Vernon; two nieces, Kristin Lacy-Tartar and her husband, Seth, of Kansas City, Mo. and Rachel Lacy of Aurora; one great niece; many dear aunts, uncles, cousins and beloved friends and loyal customers.

His father, one brother and one sister, preceded him in death.

A funeral service, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Auguest 8, at the St. Susanne Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, with burial at the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery.A rosary will be held from 6:00–6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, in the funeral home chapel with visitation to follow.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Susanne Catholic Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
