Leonard L. Shepard was born April 12, 1917, in McIntire, Iowa, the son of Leland and Leora (Fairbanks) Shepard.
On September 27, 1940, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Clausen in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She died June 24, 1992. He was employed as a press operator at the John Deere Downtown Waterloo Tractor Works, retiring in 1974.
He is survived by his daughters, Sharon (Robert) Youngman of Stilwell, Oklahoma, and Dixie (Marvin) Long of Cedar Falls; son, Leonard Jr. (Suzy) of Ankeny; nine grandchildren; twenty-five great grand-children; one great-great grandson; and two sisters, Faye Johnston and Mildred Gutknecht, both of Cedar Falls.
Leonard died Saturday, February 22, 2003, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Bernard and Merle Shepard and sister, Mary
