James H. Onken

ORCHARD, IOWA - Jim Onken, 87, of Osage and formerly of Orchard, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 5, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Orchard Cemetery in Orchard, with military honors at the grave by Orchard American Legion Post 641, Osage V.F.W. Post 7920 and Osage American Legion Post 278.

Jim was born November 5, 1925, at Orchard, the son of Enno Johnson and Jennie Talina Wilhamena (Rademacher) Onken. He attended school in Orchard. Jim served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On July 3, 1948, he married Ruth Kuderling. She passed away on March 11, 1993. Jim married Jean Foxen on June 13, 1998. He was a farmer in the Orchard area. Jim was a member of the Orchard American Legion and the Osage V.F.W. He loved dancing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jean Onken of Osage; children, Robert (Dee) Onken of Osage, Gloria (Russ) Hein of Little Cedar, Karen (Art) Gillitzer of Turtle Lake, Wisconsin, Sharen (Duane) Larsen of Chula Vista, California, Betty (Lennis) Krones of Mason City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Art Onken of Osage, and sister, Donna Onken of Omaha, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ruth; a son, Tom in 1973; a grandson, Scott Meyer in 2001; his siblings, Martha Miller, Walter Onken, John Onken, Edward “Weasel” Onken, George Onken, Frank Onken, Eno Onken, Keith Onken, Dorothy Onken and Jennie Adams.
