Karen Hansdatter was born June 17, 1840 at Hadeland, Oppland, Norway. She emigrated 1869 to America.
Karen married Gulbrand (Gilbert) Johnson in 1872 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. The couple had 4 children (all born at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa):
Albert (born April 6, 1872, died January 29, 1890 Iowa),
Helene (born 1873, died April 20, 1876 Mitchell, Iowa),
Bernt (Ben)(born September 24, 1875, died February 21, 1948 Mason City, Cerro Gordo, Iowa) and
Karl (born September 12, 1879, died before 1900 Iowa).
Gulbrand (Gilbert) had been married once before to Randine Anstensdatter and they had 3 children John, Andrew and Julia. Karen became their stepmother.
Found in the 1880 - 1910 censuses living at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:
1880: Gilbert Johnson 49, Carrie Johnson 35, John Johnson 19, Anton Johnson 16, Albert Johnson 7, Behrent Johnson 4, Carl Johnson 6m.
1885: Gilbert 55, Carrie Johnson 42, Albert Johnson 13, Ben Johnson 9, Carl Johnson 5, Andrew Johnson 22.
1900: Gilbert Janson 69, Kam Janson 59, Bernt Janson 24. Says she has 4 children but only one living in 1900.
1910: Ben Johnson 34, Gilbert Johnson 79, Karen Johnson 71.
Karen Hansdatter Johnson died January 22, 1912 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
