Funeral services were held on Monday, Otober 20, 1986 for Gustav "Gus" Niess, 62, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rev. L. Connolly officiated and burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Osage, Iowa.
Mr. Niess died on Friday, October 17, 1986 at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage.
Gustav Niess was born on December 14, 1923 at Stacyville, to Joseph and Celia (Adams) Niess. He received his education in Stacyville schools. On November 29, 1952 he married Delores Koch in Mason City. The couple farmed in the Osage area. Mr. Niess was a member of the Mitchell County ARC, having served as president and was 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Survivors include his wife, Delores of Osage; five daughters: Mrs. Steve (Shirley) Penney of Little Cedar, Mrs. Kerry (Donna) Israels of Spencer, Rose Niess, both of Osage, and Mrs. Stacy (Janice) Joslin of Yuma, Arizona; five sons: Calvin, Vernon, Robert, Loren and Keith, all of Osage; three brothers: Francis of Squaw Lake, Minnesota, Joe Jr. of Donaldensinelle, Louisiana, and Matt of Osage; seven sisters: Helen Bena, Mrs. Fritz (Ruth) Schrandt and Mrs. Deo (Joan) Koenigs, all of Stacyville; Sister Catherine Niess of LaCrescent, California, Mrs. Bill (Mary) Anderson of Mason City, Mrs. Bill (Margaret) Tray of Woodland Park, Colorado, and Mrs. Floyd (Celia) Guy of Rochester, Minnesota; and 15 grandchildren.
