Marvin J. Norby

Osage, Iowa — Marvin J. Norby, age 78, of Osage, Iowa, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Avenue, rural Osage, with the Rev. Joel Dahlen officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Marvin was born September 8, 1934, in Osage, the son of Herbert and Alice (Moe) Norby. On June 5, 1954, he was united in marriage to Edna Amundson at Rock Creek Lutheran Church. He spent his entire married life farming with Edna on their farm southwest of Osage. Marvin was an active lifelong member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church. He served on the boards of the Osage Elevator and Faith Lutheran Home. Marvin enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Edna (Amundson) Norby of Osage; his children, James Norby of Mankato, Minn., Sharon (Jon Hass) Farrer of Hampton, David (Marcy) Norby of Brookville, Ohio; grandchildren, Kristin (Drew) Lamb of Des Moines, Andy Farrer of Latimer, Laura Farrer of Des Moines, Ryan Norby of Eaton, Ohio, Bradley and Cody Cox of Brookville, and Samuel Norby of Brookville; a sister, Marlys Smith, of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Dean (Jane) Norby of Osage; brother in-law, Francis Jacobs of Osage; sister-in-law, Mary (Keith) Lugg of Casper, Wyoming; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joan Jacobs; and brother in-law, Will Smith.
