Obituary--

Betty B. Shumate, age 84 of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Johanna Shores Presbyterian Homes in Arden Hills, Minnesota.

Betty Meyers was born September 24, 1928 in Grainger, Minnesota the daughter of John and Olive (Leister) Meyers. She grew up in the Grainger and Harmony area, graduating from Harmony High School. She moved to Austin and worked at the Geo A. Hormel Company. On January 31, 1948, Betty married Wayne E. Shumate in Austin. An active member of Fellowship United Methodist Church, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, walking, playing cards and visiting with friends and family.

Survivors include her daughter Bonnie Shumate of Oakdale, Minnesota; a brother, Norman Meyers of Waterloo, Iowa; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Olive Meyers; her husband Wayne in 2009; two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Rev. Ted Weidman officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Osage Cemetery in Osage, Iowa. Memorials are directed to the Grand Meadow Health Care Center.
