Carpenter, Iowa — Ronald Stehn, 63, of Waukee, formerly of Carpenter, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at the Taylor House of Hospice in Des Moines.

BIOGRAPHY--

Ronald Curtis “Doc” Stehn, 63, of Waukee, Iowa, formerly of Carpenter, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at the Taylor House of Hospice in Des Moines.

A funeral service for Ron will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter with Pastor Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in the East Newberg Cemetery in Carpenter. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church.

Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South, Northwood, is in charge of the arrangements.

Ronald Curtis Stehn was born on February 25, 1950, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Delmar and Edna (Floy) Stehn. Ron received his early education in the Carpenter Community School, and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1968. Following high school, Ron earned his Bachelor of Science, Masters Degree, and his Doctorate Degree in science education from the University of Iowa.

In 1974, Ron began his teaching career where he taught high school science and math in Moravia, Cardinal of Eldon, Belle Plane, Emmetsburg, Shenandoah, and Waukee; retiring in 2012, due to ill health. Ron also was a teaching assistant at the University of Iowa and coached high school football, and track while he was working on his Doctorate, and was a laboratory instructor at Drake University.

In his earlier years Ron earned his Eagle Scout award, was a 4-H member, and a member of Iowa Athletic Association.

Ron enjoyed coaching football and track, enjoyed his pet cats and dogs, gardening, remodeling his house and cooking.

Those left to cherish his memory are his brother, Dan (Donna) Stehn of Dubuque, Iowa; his sister, Kathy Stehn (Bruce Elvers) of Waupun, WI; his sister-in-law, Eldora Stehn of Northwood; five nieces and one nephew; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar Stehn and Edna Juveland; his brother, James Stehn; and a great niece, Cassidy Stehn.
