LEONA E. BARTZ
GRAFTON -- Leona E. (Schulz) Bartz, 88, died on Tuesday (Aug. 17, 2004) at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton, with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson and Associate in Ministry Irmgard Ellingson, officiating. Burial will be in the Grafton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
Leona E. Schulz was born Dec. 31, 1915, in Faribault (Rice County), Minn., the daughter of Herman and Margaret (Von Rath) Schulz. Leona was the second youngest of 12 siblings.
She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault, and continued to have strong ties to her home church.
Leona was joined in marriage to Harold Bartz on June 26, 1949, in St. Paul, Minn. To this union two sons were born, Dennis and Curtis. She and her husband farmed in the Grafton area for many years.
Harold passed away in August of 1983. Leona moved from her farm home to Grafton in 1983 and lived there until November of 2003, when she became a resident of Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.
Leona had a lifetime gift for making crafts, painting, ceramics, making dolls and geneology.
She enjoyed being with people, playing cards and visiting.
Her love for her family and friends were evident by her sharing her gifts and abilities.
Her strong faith and worship at Emmanuel in Grafton helped her to cope with numerous tragedies and illnesses throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; son, George Hardwick; grandson, David Hardwick; five brothers;and six sisters.
Leona is survived by three sons, Fred (Sylvia) Hardwick of Beela Vista, Ark., Dennis (Barb) Bartz of Grafton, and Curtis (Caren) Bartz, of Grafton; eight grandchildren, Deanna Blaha, Jason Hardwick, Lora Rustad, Theresa Sietsema, Brian Bartz, Andrew Bartz, Courtney Bartz and Caylee Bartz; numerous great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
