Ernest C. Marcks was born in Mitchell County, Iowa, July 31, 1877. He married Bertha Elizabeth Nack who was born at Grafton, Iowa on May 25, 1881. They were married on December 10, 1902 in St. Ansgar, and moved to the community August 1903 and settled on the old Tomlinson farm, three miles southeast of Buffalo.
They lived there until 1916, then they moved to the old Derby farm, which they had bought and built a new set of buildings. They farmed here until 1935 when their eldest son, Ervin, took over.
They moved to the old Baker farm on the edge of Buffalo and farmed there until their retirement in 1945. They lived there with their son, Harry, until they moved into their home, which they had purchased in town. It is the house now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Johnson.
Mr. Marcks always worked for the good of the community. He served on the town board and school board many years. They were faithful workers in the Lutheran Church, and he served as a deacon for many years.
Mrs. Marcks died March 21, 1951 and Mrs. Marcks passed away November 24, 1962.They had eight children, all born at Buffalo and educated in the Buffalo schools. Children include; Dora (Mrs. August Buttke); Ervin; Grayce (Mrs. George Burt; Esther; Harry; Clara (Mrs. Evan Brown); Isabelle (Mrs. Larry Roberts); Evelyn (Mrs. Clifford Morse)

Ernest Carl August Marcks was born July 31, 1877 in Mitchell County, Iowa, the son Ernest Friedrich Ludwig Marcks, and her mother was Louise Wilhelmine Friedrike Wilde Marcks.
They were buried at Buffalo Cemetery, Buffalo, Cass Co., North Dakota
