Funeral services for Ervin F. Groth, who died at a nursing home in Stacyville August 21, 1951 will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran church August 24 with the Rev. Herman C. Wolters officiating.
Ervin Frederick Edward Groth, son of the late John and Johannah Treichel Groth, was born June 11, 1903 in Otranto township, Mitchell county, Iowa. He was baptized as an infant in the Immanuel Lutheran church here by Pastor William Janzow and after due instruction confirmed in the same church by Pastor Paul Brammer.
He received his education in the Otranto school and spent his youth in that neighborhood. On June 13, 1929 he was united in marriage with Esther Lutz, Pastor Brammer performing the ceremony. They first lived on a farm east of Otranto for eight years and then moved to a farm northeast of Osage where they lived until 1947 when they moved to their farm north of St. Ansgar.
Their marriage was blessed with four children, two sons and two daughters. Both sons preceded their father in death, John at the age of four months and David at the age of five years. Mr. Groth's parents, two brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.
Mr. Groth had not been well for the last seven years. His condition became worse this past winter and he was mostly bedfast for the past several months. His illness became critical last week and he was taken to the Falk Nursing home in Stacyville last Thursday evening. He died there Tuesday, attaining the age of 48 years, two months and 10 days.
He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Jean Sullivan of Osage and Barbara Ann at home; one brother, Henry of St. Ansgar; four sisters, Mrs. Ida Pagel of St. Ansgar, Mrs. Minnie Frese of Osage, Mrs. Augusta Baldner of near Toeterville and Mrs. Rosie Behl of Osage; also one granddaughter and many other relatives.
Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Wolters in charge of committal servics.
