SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Graveside services were held in St. Ansgar Sunday afternoon for Harriet McKinley (Brown) Coates, attended by her husband, L.P. Coates, and son, Bruce Brown, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; her sister, Miss Angeline McKinley, of Ames; her brother, H.L. McKinley, and family of St. Ansgar; K. Bliss and son, Richard, of Ames; and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bliss and little son of Grundy Center. Interment was in the city cemetery.

Harriet McKinley was born at St. Ansgar, Iowa, November 11, 1887, to L.G. and Nellie Eveleth McKinley, and passed away at her home in Mailwaukee on August 24, 1949, following a cerebral hemorrhage.

She graduated from St. Ansgar high school, had a degree in music from Cornell college, and in 1913 graduated with a liberal arts degree from the University of Minnesota. She taught music some time before her marriage. She was married in 1925 to Lowell Brown at the parental L.G. McKinley home in St. Ansgar. Mr. Brown passed away in 1936 and is buried in St. Ansgar. One son, Bruce, was born in their union and he had just returned in June from three years services in the 88th Division in Trieste.

Funeral services were held in Milwaukee on Friday afternoon, August 26. Following cremation of her body her ashes were brought to St. Ansgar for burial.

She is survived by her husband, L.P. Coates, and son, Bruce Brown, both of Milwaukee; her sister, Miss Angeline McKinley of Ames; and brother, H.L. McKinley of St. Ansgar, and several nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and oldest sister, Mrs. R.K. Bliss, of Ames.
