Funeral services for Rev. Richard Edmund Zellmer, 66, who died April 23, 1993 at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, Osage, were held April 26 at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Porisch officiating.

A funeral service was also held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moville, Iowa April 27 with Rev. Michael A. Kroona officiating. Burial was in Arlington Township Cemetery in Moville.

Richard Edmund Zellmer was born March 15, 1927 in Sioux City to Edmund G. and Emma (Balk) Zellmer. He was baptized May 8, 1927 and confirmed August 9, 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moville. He was raised on the family farm, attended Moville Number 6 country school and graduated in 1945 from Moville High School. In 1950, he graduated from Wartburg College, Waverly, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.

June 29, 1952 he was united in marriage to Minona E. Dettman, at Watertown, Wisconsin.

In 1954 he graduated from Wartburg Seminary after serving an internship in Sequin, Texas. He was ordained into the Holy Ministry of the American Lutheran Church June 27, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville. He served rural parishes in Birnamwood, Wisconsin; Monticello and Hopkinton, Eldora, and St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Township, near Grafton. Since retiring in 1989 Richard served as interim pastor at Faith Lutheran Church, Mitchell and substituted at congregations in northern Iowa. He had served on the board of directors of the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, EWALU Bible Camp at Strawberry Point, and Faith Home, Osage.

Rev. Zellmer's varied interests included gardening, woodworking, mechanical and electrical repair, genealogy and camping in addition to his rural congregational ministry.

Rev. Zellmer was preceded in death by his father in 1986 and his mother in March 1993.

Survivors include his wife, Minona, St. Ansgar; brother, Kenneth of Moville; two sons, Mark and wife, Debra Daehn Zellmer and grandchildren, Timothy and Bethany of Red Wing, Minnesota; Joel and wife, Jodi Zellmer of Liberty Lake, Washington; two daughters, Kristin Zellmer of Hudson and grandson, Eric of St. Ansgar; Heidi Zellmer and grandson, Jared of Charles City.
