VERY SUDDEN DEATH OF MRS. MARY KLINDT WILDMAN
One of the saddest things which has occurred in St. Ansgar for a long time was the sudden death of Mrs. Mary Klindt Wildman. A bride of scarcely more than two months, a young woman of finest character, and amiable desposition, stricken down by insidious kidney and heart trouble and died within an hour. It was a shock not only to her friends and relatives but to the entire community.
Mrs. Mary Alber Klindt Wildman was born on a little island called Fane, belonging to and bordering on the west coast of Denmark, August 28, 1885. She was the third child of Hans Alber and wife Maren. She was baptized in infancy in the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church. June 28, 1891 her mother died after giving birth to the sixth child. The family being in pressed circumstances, friends and neighbors took four of the flock and cared for them. Mr. and Mrs. Klindt adopted the deceased on July 3, 1891, wherefore she always claimed to have two birthdays.
In 1894 she came with her adopted parents to the United States. In October the same year, they came to St. Ansgar and have been here ever since. In 1900 she was confirmed by Rev. J. Olsen in the Norwegain Lutheran Church and in 1904 she graduated from the St. Ansgar High School.
May 11th, 1911 she was united in marriage to Charles Wildman of Cresco, Iowa. June 1st they took charge of the hotel and made that their home. She was not in excellent health the last three or four weeks but both she and her nearest relatives thought it was on account of the excessive heat we had had and the kind of work she was engaged in. On the 19th she felt very well and went with her father about town. About ten o'clock she came and bid him goodnight. She was in somewhat troubled spirits and asked him to stay at the hotel, which he promised. She retired to her room. Ten minutes later her father heard someone moaning and going to her room, found her lying on the floor, unconscious. She did not revive, but expired at 10:30 pm at the age of 25 years 10 months, and 22 days.
She was a dutiful daughter, noble, true and clean of heart, a blessing to her home, and leaves nothing but pleasant memories after her.
The funeral was held at the City Hotel July 22nd, Rev. M.E. Waldeland officiating, and her remains were laid to rest at the St. Ansgar Cemetery east of town.
Those who were here from abroad attending Mrs. Wildman's funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Wildman, Mr. Wildman's parents, of Becker, Minn.; J.H. Thompson and wife of Browsdale, Minn.; Prof. Ling, wife and daughter of Chicago; Mrs. Hoxie of Waterloo; E.D. Wildman of Cresco, and Mrs. Holberg and Miss Elsie Licht of Chicago.
