Ulvik is in the region of Hardanger.
The spelling of the farm name today is Vambheim.

Funeral services were held at the First Lutheran church for Andrew L. Wambem, father of Mrs. Alfred Assorson. Mr. Wambem died while visiting his daughter here May 4, 1951. The Rev. O.A. Langehough officiated.

Andrew L. Wambem, son of Lars and Kathrine Wambem, was born in Ulvik, Hardanger, Norway on June 20, 1866. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Ulvik, and has always adhered to the church and its teachings.

At the age of 16, he came with his parents and five brothers and sisters to Hatton, North Dakota where they established their home. Tragedy came to them just one month after their arrival in the pioneer country, in the death of their father, leaving their mother to care for the family alone. Andrew, being the oldest, bore many of the burdens and responsibilities with and for his mother.

He attended Luther College in Decorah for a time. On February 26, 1886 he was united in marriage to Anna Hylden, the daughter of David and Martha Hylden. The ceremony was performed in the First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar by the Rev. Johann Olsen. Four children were born to this union, Della Assorson of St. Ansgar, Lewis, who died at the age of 17, Elizabeth Eye of Minneapolis and Lloyd of Cedar Rapids.

Mr. Wambem worked at his carpenter's trade in Des Moines during World War I where he was Supt. of Construction at Camp Dodge. His home was in St. Ansgar for a period of 13 years. Since 1931 he has made his home in Alabama. On January 7, 1951, he came to made his home with his daughter, Elizabeth in Minneapolis.

On April 30th he came to St. Ansgar to visit in the Assorson home. He was up and about until Thursday night when he became ill and passed peacefully away on Friday.

He is survived by his only remaining sister, Guri Wambheim of Hatton, North Dakota, his three children, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren and a host of friends. Burial was in the City Cemetery.
