SUDDENLY LAST WEEK
AT HOME AT MITCHELLFuneral services for John S. Knutson, 54, of Mitchell, were held Sunday afternoon, July 17, 1949, at the Osage Lutheran church in Osage. The Rev. T.P. Solem officiated. Military services were held at the graveside and burial was in the Mitchell cemetery. Mr. Knutson died suddenly last Thursday at his home after a normal day's work. Death was due to a heart attack.
John Sanford Knutson, son of Henry and Bertha Nelson Knutson, was born August 3, 1894 on the parental farm northeast of St. Ansgar. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar.
He attended rural school near Spring Valley and high school at St. Ansgar. After two years he enrolled at a telegraphers' school in Minneapolis. Following completion of this course he was a station operator for three years. He joined the United States Navy in October 1918, and was discharged August 4, 1919.
June 22, 1920, he was married to Hazel Mae Robertson at Lyle, Minnesota. Their first home was at Otranto and they later lived near St. Ansgar. More recently they engaged in farming near Mitchell.
Surviving are his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Darrell (Nathalie) Krogh of Sergeant Bluff, and Barbara, a registered nurse at Lincoln County hospital at Caliente, Nevada. He is also survived by two grandchildren, one brother, Otto of St. Ansgar, and two sisters, Mrs. Sophia Robertson and Miss Nellie Knutson, both of Minneapolis.
