LAST RITES FOR
ST. ANSGAR WOMAN
WERE HELD SATURDAY

Funeral services for Margaret Belz, 78, of St. Ansgar, were held on Saturday, March 5, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. Burial was in the Carpenter cemetery. Miss Belz died last Thursday morning after a long illness, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Fred Vedder, in St. Ansgar.

Margaret Rose Belz was born on a farm two miles south of Carpenter on June 24, 1870. She was the oldest daughter of August and Anna Kramer Belz. She was baptized in early infancy in the First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar, and was confirmed on April 18, 1886, in St. John's Lutheran Cuhrch by the Rev. J.L. Zeilinger of Rock Creek.

When she was 16 years old the family lost the father in death, and as the oldest child she assisted her mother with the household duties. About 26 years ago she came to live in St. Ansgar with her mother. Upon her mother's death shortly thereafter, Miss Belz established her own home, where she spent the remainder of her life, until last year.

Following major surgery in August 1947, from which she never fully recovered, she was with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vedder, a good share of the time. Last September she went to live permanently with them. The last three weeks she was bedfast.

Surviving are her four brothers, George, Andrew and William of St. Ansgar, and Fred of near Carpenter; and two sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Amelia) Ruehlow and Mrs. Fred (Emma) Vedder, both of St. Ansgar.
