Death Notice: Anna Mary Durben, 96

Anna Mary Durben, 96, of Stacyville, Iowa, died on Friday, December 21, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Stacyville.

Service: Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Msrg. John Hemann officiating.

Visitation: Visitation will be on Thursday, December 27, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Visitation Catholic Church, with a rosary at 5 p.m.

Interment: Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville.

Funeral Home: Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.

Anna was born on September 12, 1916 in Stacyville, Iowa, to Anton and Gertrude (Simon) Halbach. She graduated from Visitation Catholic School in Stacyville.

Anna married Walter E. Durben on October 5, 1938 at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. She owned and operated Durben’s Clothing Store from 1950 until 1981. She was active in the Catholic Foresters and Christian Mothers. She also served as sacristan at Visitation Catholic Church for ten years. Gardening, sewing and crocheting were some of her favorite activities.

Anna is survived by her children; Juanita (Robert) Wageman, Stacyville, Joseph Durben, Woodland Park, CO, Karen Fick, Clear Lake, Iowa, Jeanne (Barry) Overlee, Woodland Park, Colorado, Daniel (Liz) Durben, Philadelphia, PA; daughter-in-law Patricia (Larry) Durben: one sister, Esther Klapperich, Stacyville; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded I death by her parents, Anton and Gertrude; husband Walter; son Lawrence (Pat); daughter-in-law Linda (Joe); grandson Wally; three sisters, Priscilla, Agatha Heimer and Betty Brown/May; two brothers Ronald and Cornelius.

She married Walter Edward Durben, the son of Joseph Durben and Rose (Hemann) Durben.
