Oscar Finsand was born May 4, 1888 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Tosten Olsen Finsand and Margarethe Halvorsdatter, the eleventh of their twelve children.
Oscar was baptized at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa on May 28, 1888. His baptismal sponsors were: Andreas Heggerstad, Theodore Pedersen, Ingeborg Pedersen and Kari Lindelien. Oscar was confirmed at the same church on June 1, 1902.
Found in the 1895 to 1905 censuses living at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, IA:
1895: Oscar Finson age 7.
1900: Torsten Finsand 63, Magrethe Finsand 53, Peder Finsand 23, Chrestian Finsand 21, Martin Finsand 19, Maria Finsand 17, Oscar Finsand 12, Theodor Finsand 9, Annie Olsen 78.
His parents' house and land was directly east of the RCLC Church, across Rock Creek, in the woods. Only a foundation remains in 2012.
Oscar left Iowa and moved to Canada to homestead and farm. He also worked on ships as an oiler and traveled extensively in the open seas.
Oscar married an Anna Nelsina Johannesen in Canada and believe the couple had four children. Family found crossing the Canadian border into Babb, Montana on August 29, 1930: Oscar Finsand, wife Anna, daughters Esther and Lillian, son Alfred. Also found a reference to a son named Omar Finsand.
Oscar Finsand died November 6, 1976 at Norwalk, Los Angeles, California.
