Sam (Samson) Ellingson was born November 5, 1851 at Ulllensvang, Hordaland, Norway, to Elling Arnesen Oppedal and Marita Helgesdatter.
Sam was baptized December 7, 1851 at Ullensvang, Hordaland, Norway. Baptismal witnesses were Lars Magnussen; Andrew Andersen Oppedal; Marita Petersdatter and Sigri Larsdatter Oppedal. Birth and baptismal record found at Norwegian Digital Archives on-line for Ullensvang, Hordaland, Norway 1825-1853, pg 114, entry #128.
Sam was confirmed May 3, 1868 at the Ullensvang, Hordaland, Norway church. Record at Norwegian Digital Archives, Ullensvang, Norway 1867-1879, pg 10, entry #24.
Sam emigrated in 1873 to Mitchell County, Iowa.
He married Carrie Sponheim on January 10, 1882 at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa.
The couple had four children:
Andrew (born May 10, 1884, died November 1971);
Emma Marie (born July 1886, married Fred Feldt, died August 20, 1969, married Fred Feldt);
Martin Olaf (born November 12, 1888, died February 11, 1941);
Sena Amanda (born September 29, 1891, married Charles Miller, died December 1983).
Found in the 1885 to 1915 censuses living at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa:
1885: Sans Ellingson, 33, Cora Ellingson, 31, Andrew Ellingson, 9 mo, Henry Spoonheim, 27, Ole Spoonheim, 20.
1900: Sam Ellingson, 48, Carrie Ellingson, 46, Andrew Ellingson, 16, Emma Ellingson, 13, Ole M Ellingson, 11, Sena Ellingson, 8.
1910: Sam Ellingson, 58, Karie Ellingson, 56, Andrew Ellingson, 25, Martin Ellingson, 21, Lena Ellingson, 18.
1915: Sam Ellingson, age 63.
Found in the 1920 census at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa: Sam Ellingson, 68, Carrie Ellingson 66.
Sam Ellingson died July 9, 1920 at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Evergreen (First Lutheran) Cemetery, St Ansgar, Iowa.
